Fresh off the August 8 special election and the defeat of Issue 1, hosts James Hayes and Sarah Rodenberg speak with Petee Talley from Ohio Unity Coalition and Black Ohio Leaders for Democracy, Kyle Marcum from Ohio Citizen Action Education Fund, and Ray Greene Jr, from The Freedom Bloc.
Issue 1, the attempt to make it harder to amend the Ohio Constitution, was defeated on August 8 after 57% of Ohioans voted to reject the power grab. There was a 38.5% turnout in this special election, with more than 3 million Ohioans voting.
Petee, Kyle, and Ray share insights from the work their organizations did on the ground as part of the One Person One Vote campaign, a broad coalition of groups opposing Issue 1. They talk about lessons learned from knocking on doors, making calls, and talking to voters.
On November 7, 2023, Ohioans will vote on a reproductive freedom amendment. Make sure you are registered and have a plan to vote.
